Third molars (wisdom teeth) usually appear between the ages of 16 and 25 at the back of the mouth. Often they erupt in an unfavourable position and get stuck or “impacted” trying to come in, creating a condition known as “pericoronitis”. This is an uncomfortable inflammation of the gum tissue around an impacted wisdom tooth. These wisdom teeth can often grow unnoticed until they suddenly start to cause issues in the mouth. During your visit, our team of Whitbydentists will use a panoramic or ‘zoomed’ out view of your mouth to analyze the position of your wisdom teeth and discuss whether they will need removal.
